What Is PRP?
PRP is a concentration of platelets derived from your own blood. After drawing a small sample, it is processed in a centrifuge to isolate platelets, which contain powerful growth factors that support tissue healing. Because PRP comes from your own body, it is considered autologous and has a very low risk of adverse reaction.

Platelets release growth factors that:
- Stimulate tissue repair
- Improve blood flow
- Reduce inflammation
- Promote collagen formation
- Support tendon, ligament, and soft tissue healing
PRP is commonly used for:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction
- Ankle ligament injuries
- Peroneal tendon pathology
- Chronic heel pain
- Early arthritic changes
- Nerve conditions
- Slow-healing surgical sites (in select cases)
Recovery After PRP
- Mild soreness for 2–5 days is common
- Limited anti-inflammatory medication use (to allow healing cascade)
- Activity modification for 1–2 weeks
- Gradual return to full activity over 4–6 weeks
- Athletic return often between 6–8 weeks depending on condition
Physical therapy is often recommended to optimize results.
Expected Outcomes
PRP does not “mask” pain—it stimulates healing. Most patients notice:
- Gradual pain reduction over 4–8 weeks
- Improved function and strength
- Decreased need for steroid injections
- Potential delay or avoidance of surgery in appropriate cases
Some conditions require a series of treatments for optimal results.
